“She is also named NEW Dutch Photography Talent 2017 - Curated by GUP Magazine..”
When looking at myself and reviewing my own work I overall see that through my photography I try to express the identity of people that I photograph. And how their life and culture blends into their self being. I wish to tell their story, especially for those who don't have a voice to express their own story.
Therefore my work is a combination of fine-art and documentary work. I'm on a quest to express stories that need to be told in my perspective. The last two years I have been struggling to find my own identity as a photographer. I doubted about my work and stories that I was telling. I often asked myself the question what is my goal in photography and when I enjoy it the most. For me photography is not just for making beautiful pictures but I want to express myself, my own vision in life but also the ones of of people that move me. I found out through my lens I want to contribute to people that didn't had the chance to speak for themselves. And hopefully making a better place doing so. And by celebration of these differences in culture and ethnic pride.
My Approach is always conceptually. Meaning I'm inspired by the story or the situation some people living in, after researching my concept I start thinking about images. I'm convinced that in creating images in this way the images are stronger and more valuable. As a youth I was inspired by the analogue camera of my father, when growing up I kept this interest for visual art and story telling. When all grown up my love for Africa has always played a huge roll my life, today I often travel to Ethiopia were I work and travel.
