The Dutch old masters and their paintings play an important role in the cultural history of The Netherlands. They are part
of our cultural identity and they inspired me to create photographs with the feel of the Remaissance paintings
as a way of honoring their contribution to our culture.
The late Renaissance is characterized by the increasing welfare in west Europe and the Americas.
The downside to this welfare is slavery. Due to the transatlantic slave trade a huge amount of resources, work load, profit and luxurious goods were able to be made, financed and transported to west Europe and the Americas.
